In January 2026, REMED launched a poster competition for secondary school students in Years 9, 10 and 11 on the theme of ‘Protecting the Sea’.
Students were invited to submit an original poster designed to raise awareness of the importance of marine conservation within our wider Mediterranean environment.
Participants were encouraged to consider:
- Different ways in which the sea is being threatened: Sea temperature rise, pollution, plastic waste, depletion of marine life and biodiversity, rising sea levels, acidification, ‘alien’ species, etc.
- The lives and habitats of different marine species and the importance of the protecting them.
- Different ways of protecting the sea: scientific methods, community work, personal efforts, etc.
Winning entires will receive prizes of a total value of 400 euros generously funded by Arts Council Malta.
